BOWING & POSTURE
BOWING
We bow to show respect and appreciation for the space we practice in the training hall (dojo), to the Founder of Ki-Aikido, our teachers, to our partners, including the arts of Ki-Aikido itself and what it does for us. A bow is performed upon entering or leaving the dojo, stepping onto or off the mat. The bow should always be done with sincere modesty and gratitude. A proper bow shows true presence. It reflects awareness both internally within oneself and externally of one's surroundings. It should be humble but not falsely so.

POSTURE
The link between body and state of mind can be most evident when examining the posture.
You can easily pick out someone who may be depressed or unhappy even by the most subtle signal from his posture including anyone who is agitated, angry, happy or drunk. A body that tenses up is expressing stress. The tension created by the stress keeps the breathing shallow, even laboured. Good posture allows us to be more centered. A centered state is a peaceful state.
